How Do You Get A Kid To Clean?

Friday, February 26, 2010

What do you all do when you want your kids to clean up their toys? I would love to hear all of your stories and suggestions.

I thought Jaden was really lazy when it came to hygiene and keeping his toys picked up or even just helping out. He just lacks motivation is what I was thinking. So I decided to motivate him! I told Jaden that he could pick out his breakfast every morning if he cleaned up his stuff. Jaden rushed to get it done and I thought it was because he was going to ask for a vegan chocolate chip cookie! To my surprise he asked for...salad with goddess dressing. Who in the world eats salad for breakfast? Or more importantly, what 8 year old eats salad for breakfast? So, my living room is clean and one out of three children already had a serving of veggies today. Nothing like killing two birds with one stone!

Jonah Escaped Preschool!

Wednesday, February 24, 2010

Leave it to this boy to escape a locked and secured Sunday preschool room at church!
Ken and I decided to visit the church not far from our home. It is a very big church and very modern. Jaden wanted to join the 1st to 6th graders in the Kids Church and Jonah at first went with Ken, Liam and I to the church service. Well after awhile I asked if he would like to try the Kids Kingdom. He excitedly skipped down the hallway to the preschool room. There were mostly little girls sitting at a table doing some kind of craft. The lady who was helping us get Jonah all settled in handed us a pager. It's the same type of pager Olive Garden uses to call you when your table is ready. The two teachers in the room explained every thing while Jonah ran off to play with toys. We were told how the room was very secure and they child will never be handed off to anyone but an adult and the one that has the pager. So we felt pretty safe and Jonah looked like he was enjoying himself. We left Jonah and made our way down the hall through two very solid doors that remind me of school. The next stop was to see how Liam liked the toddler room. The same security measures applied here and there were but only three boys in the room with two teachers. Liam squealed when he saw the toys and wanted down right away. Ken let him waddle off to a nearby piano when a boy excitedly ran around and then three his bottle he was carrying. It just so happened to connect with Liam's head and that was all it took to send him sobbing back to Ken. Liam is such a peanut, he weighs 19lbs and is 16.5mos old. So we decided to stay with him and let him explore. While standing in view of the door that exits into the hallway Ken saw a flash of a blue dress shirt similar to the one Jonah was wearing. But it couldn't be Jonah, could it? Ken was alarmed and said was that Joey? I was a little confused and didn't know what he was talking about said I replied, "What?" Ken looked puzzled and said, "Jonah, it looked like he just ran by." So I went out and looked and sure enough, Jonah was standing at the second set of double doors, the ones that lead to the bigger part of church. I said, "Jonah? What are you doing? How did you get out of you class?" Jonah replied, "I am hungry and thirsty." I looked back at the solid double doors he went through and they were closed, I asked him how he managed to get the doors open. He demonstrated for me and it was easy for him because the handles were low enough. Fortunately for us (and the entire church as I would have been livid if I went to claim him at the end of service and he was no where to be found) he couldn't get the second set of doors open. When I found him he was walking around in a circle trying to find a way to open the doors.
We grabbed Liam, signed out of the toddler room and walked back to the preschool room. They didn't even know he was missing! I asked them if they just let the kids leave when they want to and they were shocked, they didn't think he could unlock a door (we are talking a preschooler here!) and they were so embarassed. When I said a he escaped they didn't even know who I was talking about.  So we took Liam, Jonah and his growling belly to the cafe, yes they have a pretty big cafe in this church, and bought a banana, coffee and two hard pretzle sticks. When it was time Ken went to get Jaden, he had fun at least!

What's New With Liam?

Saturday, December 5, 2009

Liam is growing so fast, he is 20lbs 3.5oz, definitely a little peanut like his big brother Jaden was! Liam refuses to walk. He could probably walk if he wanted to its just that he is so afraid of falling. Its his biggest fear. It makes me wonder where these fears come from...hmmmm. Jonah has a fear of water and drowning, Jaden had a fear of hair and he still does in many ways. If any hair came near Jaden as a baby he would become so upset and scream. It was weird and sad. He still struggles with getting his haircut unless he is taken to the barber. Liam's fear is falling. If he is holding on to a door and you start to open it, even slowly, he freaks out. He flips out of he is holding a box and it moves slightly. Any thing and every thing that messes with his balance or what not he gets upset. He will let go of it and sit on his butt crying. He walks fine with his walker and he turns almost every thing into a walker, as long as its stable and doesn't shake.
I have a feeling he will start walking some time between now and 15mos old.
We have tons of teeth though. He is the first of my sons to bite, and he loves doing it! He will grab any one that frustrates him and tries to bit them.
Luckily for me Liam loves to eat. He will eat all kinds of peppers, fruits, potatoes, casseroles, etc. So long as it is not baby food and it must have flavor. He loves bananas, mandarin oranges, green beans, lentils, chick peas, peas, corn, pasta, pintos, etc.
He has the tiniest butt and can still wear size 2 diapers however I have him in 3s just so he doesn't wet the bed at night.
Liam still has to take Miralax to keep him regular. He gets constipated so easily and its some thing I hope he out grows as he ages. Other than that he is doing super as far as his issue he had at birth.
I think he is going through separation anxiety because he will not let me out of his sight. He wont play without me or do much of any thing if I am not in his sights. He will cry crawling after me until I hold him. He is a little Mama's boy but he sure loves his Dada and Gamma. He loves to see people smile and works at getting their attention at the store. Which isn't hard to do!
I have been working with Liam on identifying body parts. So far he has ear down really good and even tries to say it when he points to it. He recognized nose today and we talked about the eyes and mouth.
His all time favorite game is peek-a-boo. It's so cute! Jaden and Jonah would never play peek-a-boo with me as babies.
    Overall he is doing outstanding!

BPA in Glass Jarred Baby Food

Friday, September 25, 2009

I have strived to provide my boys with exercise and healthy diets that are hormone, chemical, dye, BPA free.
I was giving some thought to the fact that can goods have BPA in them because of the linning in the cans, then would baby food have BPA because of the linning of the lids? I found my answer within minutes of searching online.
Canadian researchers have found low levels of BPA in glass jarred baby food. Canada has claimed that eight-four percent of the samples tested positive for BPA.
Will we ever escape BPA? I buy glass baby bottles, yet the bottles come with plastic tops, I don't doubt for a moment that they contain BPA. Which brings to my mind a question of the use of BPA free labels. When can a company claims their product is BPA free? When there is only low levels of BPA or no BPA? The glass bottles I bought said BPA Free. Which mea
ns I am expecting a BPA free bottle.
So I did some more research and found this...
